Caslano: full on Blues
From 18 to 22 June, the 11th edition of the Malcantone festival.
From 18 to 22 June, the splendid courtyards and beautiful Piazza Lago will provide an inimitable setting for the eleventh edition of Caslano Blues, the first of the many musical events that have brightened up the Ticino summer since 2013. Over the years, the Malcantone blues festival has grown significantly, from the initial two evenings hosted on a single stage on the lakefront, to the current event spread over five days, two stages, six courtyards and even a series of blues ‘mini-cruises’.
Caslano Blues 2025 starts, as is now a well-established tradition, with two evenings in the centre of the village on Wednesday and Thursday (which this year coincide with the Corpus Domini holiday). Starting at 20.30 and continuing until after midnight, the following bands will be playing in six different courtyards: the Croatians Sunnysiders, the Italians Giuly Jackson & Brevablues, Geno & His Rockin' Dudes, Damn Dogs and Joe Valeriano, the Americans Kelly's Lot, the French Marjorie Martinez, the English Bex Marshall, and the bands of the Czech Petra Bornerova and of artists from the Ticino region Max Dega (who is the artistic director of Caslano Blues), Bat Battiston and Nino ‘Swiss Elvis’ Zucca.
On Friday 20 and Saturday 21 the Caslano festival moves to Piazza Lago, where there are two stages and a well-stocked food and wine ‘village’. The musical highlights - in addition to the previously mentioned Marjorie Martinez, Bex Marshall (this time together on stage) and Petra Bornerova – a previously unseen but exciting blues version of Bobby Solo, the equally anticipated Kings of the Blues (five American ‘veterans’ who have played with BB King and James Brown), the French Shaggy Dogs (returning to Caslano by popular demand), the Italian Midnight Blues Band and the Ticino bands Limited Edition and Sugar On.
The grand finale, as usual, will be on Sunday 22nd with ‘Midday Blues’ (in full aperitif-barbecue mode) with a jam session by the Kings of the Blues and other guests of Max Dega. And let's not forget the now well-established ‘Blues Cruises’ with various options on Thursday and Friday evenings and Sunday mornings, departing from the quay in Lugano (or Melide) and with local trips to Ponte Tresa: there's live music on board courtesy of Marco Marchi's Mojo duo.
