Muzzano lake

The small lake of Muzzano (22 hectares) was acquired by Pro Natura in 1945; over the years, ownership was extended to encompass many more small plots of land scattered along its shores.

Unfortunately, the reason why Pro Natura made the purchase no longer applies: a particular variety of water chestnut which can only be found here (hence its name Trapa natans var. muzzanensis) vanished at the end of the 1960s.

The lake of Muzzano however is a rare example of a small glacial lake in the hills; its shores, which are unspoiled, are still of outstanding value, allowing citizens to come into close contact with nature just a short walk from the city centre.
