Morcote Scal

The third edition of Morcote Scal, promoted and organized in collaboration with the Municipality of Morcote and the Carnevale association , will be held on Sunday 30 March 2025, from 09:30 am to 2:00 pm approximately.

Registration will be limited to only 100 participants .

A spectacular race through the narrow streets of Morcote and the magnificent monumental stairways that lead from Piazza Granda to the Church of Santa Maria del Sasso. A non-timed but knockout race that will test even the strongest. 420 steps of history and breathtaking views!

The heats will be drawn from the 100 registered participants. 20 heats made up of 5 runners. The first 2 of each heat will qualify for the next heat. The last three classified will be grouped in the play-off heats. Everyone will be able to run and compete with the others at least twice on the steps.

The race was created by Pierre Derrien, who has lived in Morcote for 8 years. Pierre uses this route several times a week to train and, taking inspiration from the disciplines present at the Olympics, he decided to create a competition with the same energy. This is how the Morcote Scal was born, an uphill race where you directly challenge your opponent from the starting line in an extraordinary environment such as “The monumental climb” of Morcote.
